Bio

Originally a dancer/choreographer, Judith Wombwell’s works in paper developed by incorporating visual art of various forms into her choreographic process. Her love of folding paper became a passion and Wombwell brought skills from her career in choreography into her creative process of working with origami tessellations and collage. Wombwell’s professional career in dance spanned forty years beginning with Island Moving Company in Newport, Ri, then Ballet Memphis and Project: Motion in her hometown of Memphis, Tn., Wombwell moved to New England in 1995 to run the dance program at Phillips Academy in Andover, Ma. She established, DeadFall Dance, from 2008-2016 to create experimental work with professional dancers. During that time, she received the Mass Council Fellowship in Choreography.
Wombwell’s work as a choreographer has been shown in many galleries including the Addison Gallery of American Art, Boston Center for the Arts, the Institute for Contemporary Art/Boston, and the Essex Art Center. Her visual art has been displayed in the Galatea Gallery in Boston, the ALL and Whistler Galleries in Lowell, and the Marblehead Art Center. She currently maintains a studio space in the Mill at Shelburne Falls and looks forward to a second creative phase of life with her work in paper.
